The Sonel PVM-1020 meter is potentially the smallest photovoltaic system meter available worldwide, yet it boasts an impressive array of measurement functions. Functions can be selected using an effortless rotary switch, and settings are adjustable via the unit’s buttons. Even in shaded environments, such as beneath ground-mounted PV systems, its graphic display and backlit buttons make operation straightforward. Additionally, its substantial memory significantly reduces the time required for document preparation post-measurement.
IRM-1 Solar Radiation and Temperature Meter
Despite its size, the IRM-1 is essential for PV system testing. It measures solar radiation levels, panel temperatures, and ambient temperatures, providing essential data for converting results into standard test conditions (STC). Its built-in recorder can house up to 5000 records, making it invaluable for both PV plant design and for pinpointing shading issues in panels.
Features of PVM-1020
- AUTO mode allows a sequence of measurements with just one press of the START button.
- Suitable for category 1 measurements as per IEC 62446-1 standards.
- Equipped with a built-in LoRa radio interface for seamless long-distance collaboration with the IRM-1 meter.
- Collaborates with the IRM-1 solar radiation and temperature meter to convert measured parameters into STC per IEC 60891.
- reSYNC function auto-completes results with environmental parameters, converting them to STC upon reconnection with the IRM-1.
- Includes a built-in Bluetooth module for computer communication.
- Large memory capacity: holds 100 objects with 40 cells each.
- Features a backlit display and buttons for better visibility.
Measured Parameters of PVM-1020
- Insulation resistance of PV panels at 250V, 500V, or 1000V with simultaneous RISO+ and RISO- values.
- RMS voltage of the AC network, up to 600V, with frequency measurement.
- Insulation resistance of AC circuits at 250V, 500V, or 1000V.
- Measurement of operating current for both PV panels and AC current via an external clamp.
- Open circuit voltage of a PV panel or panel chain up to 1000V DC.
- Resistance of protective conductors and equipotential bonding using ± 200 mA current, with low-current resistance measurement, audible and visual signalling.
- Short circuit current of a PV panel or panel chain up to 20A DC.
- AC/DC power measurement.
- Diode test with 200 mA current, automatic polarity detection, and testing of blocking diodes at 1000V DC.
Tightness and Durability of PVM-1020
The meter is designed to perform robustly in harsh environmental conditions. Its IP65-rated housing provides dust and water ingress protection, which is critical for outdoor photovoltaic system measurements.
PVM-1020 Communication and Software
Data captured by the PVM-1020 can be wirelessly transmitted to a computer via Bluetooth. The Sonel Reader software allows downloaded data to be saved in popular formats and facilitates printing. To generate reports on electric shock protection, users can employ the optional Sonel Reports PLUS software.
PVM-1020 reSYNC Function
If the master meter moves too far from the IRM-1 during measurements, breaking communication between the devices, the reSYNC function is invaluable. Once the connection is restored, the meter automatically supplements results with environmental parameters previously recorded by the IRM-1, converting these results into standard test conditions (STC).
