Fristads High-Vis Jacket, EN ISO 20471 Class 3
The Fristads high-vis jacket Class 3 is a certified high-visibility outer garment, tested and certified to EN ISO 20471 Class 3, the highest visibility class in the European standard. Powerpoint Engineering supplies Fristads hi-vis workwear to Irish electrical contractors, utility crews, substation personnel, and renewable site teams who work near road traffic, in active substation yards, on construction sites, and in any environment where being seen is a non-negotiable element of the safe system of work.
Class 3 is the level required when the wearer is exposed to traffic above 60 km/h or to higher-risk site environments. Class 2 trousers and Class 2 garments alone are not enough in those settings. The Fristads jacket gives you the certified Class 3 protection on the upper body, and stays comfortable and durable through a working day.
What "Class 3" actually means
- EN ISO 20471 is the European standard for high visibility clothing, classifying garments by the area of fluorescent background fabric and retroreflective tape, and by performance after washing and ageing.
- Class 3 is the highest classification, requiring the largest area of high-vis material across the body, including sleeves and torso.
- Class 2 is intermediate, and Class 1 is the lowest. Class 3 protection cannot be achieved by combining lower-class garments unless each piece in the layered system is itself rated.
- Required for high-speed traffic environments and many utility and rail safe-systems-of-work.
The Fristads jacket carries the EN ISO 20471 Class 3 certification, with the documentation, declaration of conformity, and user instructions to back it up. That documentation is part of the certified protection level, not optional paperwork.
Why Fristads workwear

- Hi-vis green / stretch shell options across the range, including the Class 3 stretch shell jacket and high-vis winter jacket Class 3 variants.
- PFAS-free fabric options on selected models, addressing newer environmental and procurement requirements.

Target users and applications
- Electrical contractors working on or near road traffic during installation or maintenance work
- Utility and DNO crews carrying out substation, overhead line, and underground cable work
- Renewable site personnel on wind, solar, and BESS sites with vehicle traffic and machinery
- Industrial maintenance and EHS teams in plant yards and industrial estates
- Construction electrical contractors fitting out commercial and infrastructure projects
Typical applications include any task where the EN ISO 20471 Class 3 visibility level is specified by the site's risk assessment, traffic management plan, or client safe-system-of-work. The Fristads Class 3 jacket pairs naturally with matching substation safety equipment from Powerpoint Engineering's range, including arc-rated PPE where the working environment also presents an arc flash hazard.
FAQs
Is a Class 2 jacket plus Class 2 trousers the same as Class 3?
No. EN ISO 20471 classification is a per-garment certification based on the area of high-vis material on that garment. Combining two Class 2 garments does not produce a Class 3 system. If your site policy or risk assessment requires Class 3 visibility, the jacket itself must be Class 3 certified.
Are the Fristads hi-vis jackets PFAS-free?
Selected models in the Fristads Class 3 range are PFAS-free. If PFAS-free is a procurement requirement, confirm the specific product code against the latest Fristads declaration before you order.
How long does the Class 3 certification last?
EN ISO 20471 includes a maximum number of certified wash cycles. Beyond that, the retroreflective and fluorescent performance falls below the standard and the garment should be replaced. Check the wash-cycle figure on the supplied user instructions.
