Fluke 566, 568 Multi-purpose IR Thermometers

The Fluke 566 and 568 are two-in-one infrared and contact thermometers that let you take fast non-contact spot readings or plug in a Type-K thermocouple for direct surface measurement. Both use a dot matrix display and a rugged, ergonomic body built to survive demanding industrial, electrical and mechanical environments, so one tool covers a wide range of temperature-checking jobs.

Brand and standards

Fluke is one of the most trusted names in electrical test and measurement, and Powerpoint Engineering is an authorised Fluke distributor in Ireland. The 566 and 568 combine infrared and Type-K thermocouple measurement in a single handheld, with an infrared spectral response of 8 to 14 microns and a response time under 500 ms, so readings settle quickly even in the field. As temperature instruments, both benefit from periodic calibration to keep readings traceable and reliable.

Applications

The 566 and 568 suit maintenance, electrical and process work where you need temperature without contact, or contact accuracy when you need it:

  • Spot-checking electrical connections, busbars and panels for hot joints
  • Mechanical inspection of motors, bearings and drives
  • HVAC and process checks where surface temperature matters
  • Hard-to-reach or live surfaces where non-contact reading is safer
  • Direct surface measurement with a Type-K probe where emissivity is awkward

Choosing between the 566 and 568

Both models share the same contact range, optics band and response time, so the choice comes down to reach and top-end infrared range:

  • The 568 reads infrared up to 800 °C, against 650 °C on the 566, for hotter targets.
  • The 568 has a 50:1 distance-to-spot ratio, so it measures smaller targets from further away; the 566 is 30:1.
  • If most of your work is closer-range general maintenance, the 566 is the practical pick.

FAQs

What is the difference between the Fluke 566 and 568?

The 568 reads infrared up to 800 °C with a 50:1 distance-to-spot ratio, while the 566 reaches 650 °C at 30:1. Both share the same Type-K contact range of -270 °C to 1372 °C, the same 8 to 14 micron optics and the same sub-500 ms response time.

Can I use a contact probe as well as the infrared spot?

Yes. Both are two-in-one instruments. You can take a non-contact infrared reading or connect a Type-K thermocouple for direct surface measurement, which is handy on shiny or low-emissivity surfaces where infrared alone can read low.

Can Powerpoint Engineering calibrate my Fluke 566 or 568?

Yes. Our in-house calibration and repair laboratory services Fluke temperature instruments and issues traceable certificates. Speak to our team to book a calibration slot for your thermometer.
