Intrinsically Safe True-rms Multimeter for the toughest jobs
Fluke 28 II Ex Intrinsically Safe True RMS Digital Multimeter
The Fluke 28 II Ex is the most rugged intrinsically safe digital multimeter Fluke has built, designed to be carried into hazardous areas where an ordinary meter could be an ignition source. It is certified for testing and troubleshooting inside and outside ATEX zones 1 and 2, with a T4 temperature classification (maximum surface temperature under 135 degrees C) and a Gb protection level for gases in Zone 1 locations. For technicians working in chemical, pharmaceutical and petroleum environments, that certification is the difference between a meter you can legally use and one you cannot.
Supplied by Powerpoint Engineering as an authorised Fluke distributor, the 28 II Ex combines intrinsic safety with the durability the 20 Series is known for: drop-proof, dust-proof and waterproof to IP67.
What the Fluke 28 II Ex measures
- True RMS AC voltage and current for accurate readings on non-linear loads
- Voltage and current up to 1000 V and 10 A, AC and DC
- A 4.5 digit mode with 20,000 counts for precise measurements
- Resistance, continuity, capacitance, frequency and temperature
Built for hazardous areas
Intrinsic safety is not a coating you add, it is designed in. The 28 II Ex limits the electrical and thermal energy it can release so that it cannot ignite a flammable atmosphere, which is what its ATEX zone 1 and 2 certification confirms. The IP67 housing then handles the physical side, dust, water and drops, so the meter survives the environment as well as being safe within it.

Where the 28 II Ex fits in the range
Choose the 28 II Ex when the work takes you into a classified hazardous area. If you need the same rugged 28 II build but not the intrinsic safety certification, the Fluke 28 II rugged multimeter is the standard-area equivalent.
Calibration and support
- Supplied and supported in Ireland by an authorised Fluke distributor
- Calibrated and repaired in our own lab with traceable certificates

FAQs
What does intrinsically safe mean for the Fluke 28 II Ex?
It means the meter is designed to limit the electrical and thermal energy it can release, so it cannot ignite a flammable gas atmosphere. Its ATEX zone 1 and 2 certification confirms it is suitable for use in those classified areas.
Which ATEX zones is the Fluke 28 II Ex rated for?
Zones 1 and 2, with a T4 temperature classification (maximum surface temperature under 135 degrees C) and a Gb protection level for gases in Zone 1 locations.
Does the Fluke 28 II Ex need regular calibration?
Yes. To keep readings traceable and defensible, calibrate the meter on a set interval. Our in-house laboratory calibrates and repairs Fluke instruments and issues traceable certificates.
